Lamb and Mutton Pasture Raised Our sheep are rotationally grazed on diverse pastures. They are mostly grassfed, with grain only supplemented from a local mill at breeding and lambing. Lambs are grass finished on organically managed pastures. High Welfare Standards Fenimore Farm chose a high welfare breed of sheep, the White Dorper. This breed of sheep does not have horns, does not need to be shorn (they shed their wool), and they do not need their tails docked. Most ram lambs are left intact and ewe lambs never leave the side of their mothers. How is lamb and mutton sold? The average lamb will yield 35-40 pounds of meat for your freezer. Mutton is a mature sheep and will generally yield a higher amount, approximately 50-60 pounds for your freezer. The lamb is mild and not gamey, while mutton has a stronger taste. Both are exceptionally flavored and tender. We work with each customer to have your half or whole lamb/mutton processed exactly how you would like for you and your family. Check out our Recipes!
